Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about analysis, Rekordbox export, stems, accounts and privacy. If anything here drifts from the app, the app wins.

General

What is Beat.Tools?

A crate-prep tool for DJs that runs in the browser. It detects BPM, Camelot key, energy, vocal presence, beat grid and cue points, splits stems to audition transitions, and exports to Rekordbox (XML, M3U, CSV and TBPM/TKEY tags in the MP3).

Is this the Ableton Live “Beat Tools” pack?

No. Beat.Tools is a DJ track analyzer and has nothing to do with the Ableton Live instrument pack, nor with Ableton, AlphaTheta or Pioneer DJ.

How much does it cost?

Free while in preview. The announced plans (Freemium, Starter, Pro and Expert) differ in cloud storage, analysis limits and offline mode — details are on the home page.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It opens in the browser. If you like, install it as an app (PWA) from the Chrome or Edge menu so it opens in its own window.

Which browser works best?

Chrome and Edge on desktop: they let you open the whole crate folder at once. On Safari and Firefox you pick files manually.

Does it work on mobile?

It works on modern phones and tablets, but crate prep shines on a laptop with direct folder access.

Track analysis

What gets analyzed in each track?

Average BPM and beat grid, Camelot key (average and fractional across the track), energy from 1 to 10, vocal percentage and suggested cue points.

Which audio formats are supported?

MP3, WAV, FLAC, AIFF, M4A and OGG. TBPM/TKEY tag writing is MP3-only; for other formats the values travel via the XML.

Is the key detection reliable?

Keys come out as an average and a fractional value, which helps when a track modulates. As with any automatic detection, spot-check the critical tracks of your set by ear.

Can I analyze a whole folder?

Yes. Point it at the crate folder and the queue processes tracks in sequence. Speed depends on your computer, because processing is local.

Do I need to be online?

Only to load the app. The analysis itself runs on your device. When online, Beat.Tools can also look up metadata on MusicBrainz and iTunes by the track's name and tags.

Does it identify unknown tracks, like Shazam?

No. Identification uses ID3 tags and the filename. No audio fingerprint is ever sent.

Rekordbox and export

Does Rekordbox read the Beat.Tools XML?

Yes. The XML follows Rekordbox's import format: collection, playlists and cues as POSITION_MARK.

How do I import it into Rekordbox?

Export the XML from Beat.Tools, open Rekordbox under Preferences → Advanced → rekordbox xml, point it at the file and drag the playlists from the XML panel into your collection.

Do I need the XML to get BPM and key into Rekordbox?

Not necessarily. Once TBPM/TKEY are written into the MP3s, Rekordbox reads the values from the tags when you reload the track info.

Does it work with Serato or Traktor?

There's no export in their native formats. M3U playlists and TBPM/TKEY tags in the MP3 are read by most DJ software.

Does Beat.Tools replace Rekordbox?

No. It preps the crate for Rekordbox; it isn't software for playing the show in the booth.

Stems and harmonic mixing

Are the stems neural?

No. They're HPSS (harmonic/percussive) separation done on your device: great for muting the vocal or isolating the kick while building a transition, not for studio-quality remix stems.

How does Beat.Tools help with harmonic mixing?

The Camelot wheel highlights compatible keys (same number, ±1, relative major/minor and energy boosts) and suggests pairs from your crate, taking BPM and energy into account.

Account and privacy

Do I need an account to analyze?

Not today. In offline mode you analyze without logging in. The account saves your crate and opens your library on another device.

Is my audio uploaded to a server?

Analysis never needs an upload: it runs on your device. In offline mode, the audio stays on your computer. With an account, the files you analyze are stored in your account's private cloud storage so you can play and re-analyze the crate on another device.

What does the account store?

Your login email, your crate metadata (tracks, analysis results, playlists and sets) and, while you're signed in, the audio files you've analyzed.

Do the AI features read my audio?

No. When you ask for AI organization or suggestions, only compact track data goes to the model, such as artist, title, BPM, key, energy and genre.

Can I analyze any music?

You're responsible for the files you use: only analyze and store music you have the right to use (bought, licensed, produced by you or authorized). Beat.Tools never shares your files with anyone. Details in the terms of use.

How do I delete my data?

There are two separate options in Settings. “Clear data on this device” wipes only this browser's library and cache; the account stays. “Delete account” permanently removes the account, the synced crate and the cloud files, after an explicit confirmation.
