This page explains, in plain language, what data Beat.Tools handles, where it lives and why. The rule of thumb: audio analysis happens on your device, and what goes to the cloud depends on whether you use offline mode or an account.

Analysis runs 100% in the browser. In offline mode, your audio never leaves your computer.

Summary

  • Analysis (BPM, key, energy, cues, stems) always runs on your device
  • In offline mode, with no account, your audio and library stay on your computer
  • With an account, the files you analyze and your crate metadata are stored in your account
  • We don't sell data and we don't use advertising cookies

Offline mode (no account)

The browser reads files straight from disk. Your library, analysis results and audio/stem cache live in the browser's local storage (localStorage and IndexedDB) on this device. None of it is sent to our servers.

With an account

When you sign in with an account, we store:

  • Login data: email and access credentials (passwords are stored as hashes), or the link to the sign-in provider you used
  • Crate metadata: tracks, analysis results, playlists and sets, to sync across devices
  • Audio files: after analysis, your library files are uploaded to your account's private storage so you can play and re-analyze them on another device. Each file is tied to your account only

AI features

When you ask for AI crate organization, pair suggestions or set optimization, we send the model (Grok, by xAI) only compact track data: artist, title, BPM, key, energy and genre. Audio is never sent. These features only run when you trigger them.

Track identification

To fill in metadata, the app can query MusicBrainz and iTunes using the track's artist and title. The request goes from your browser straight to those services; no audio fingerprint is sent.

Technical logs

To find and fix bugs, we log errors and some interactions with the app: the error message, the page, the browser (user agent) and, if you're signed in, your account id. These logs contain no audio.

Cookies and local storage

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in and the browser's local storage to keep your library and preferences. There are no advertising cookies or third-party ad trackers.

Where data lives

The app and database run on Railway, our hosting provider. Pages also load a script from the platform the app was built on (grok.com), which shows the “Created with Grok” badge.

Your controls

You can use Beat.Tools entirely in offline mode, with no account.

In Settings → Data on this device, “Clear data on this device” removes the library and audio cache from this browser only. Your account and cloud files are not affected.

In Settings → Delete account, you permanently delete the account and everything stored in it: login and sessions, synced crate, cloud audio files and technical logs tied to the account. Deletion is immediate and irreversible; we keep no backup of that data. The original files on your disk and anything you already exported stay with you.
